ABOUT US
Marilyn DeLaTorre, LMFT
Marilyn DeLaTorre is a marriage and family therapist with extensive experience working with children, adolescents, and families. She specializes in the integrated delivery of therapeutic techniques from various orientations, including cognitive-behavioral, behavioral, and attachment-related theories. These models are used to strengthen the client’s social, emotional, and cognitive skills development.
Marilyn earned a master’s degree in marriage and family therapy from Pacific Oaks College. She began her therapeutic career working for a non-profit mental health agency for 15 years, focusing on providing behavioral management and psychological services for children in crisis. Later, Marilyn shifted to private practice providing care to individuals having trouble fulfilling their full potential.
Marilyn believes a client’s success at home, school, and community is facilitated through a “team approach” where individual goals are collaboratively evaluated and set. Interventions to meet those goals are implemented in a supportive therapeutic environment. Marilyn strongly values the role a parent plays in a child’s life and works to support a positive parent-child relationship through psychoeducation and counseling. Each person and family are viewed as unique with an innate ability to grow and succeed in achieving the goals they set.
Marilyn seeks to provide supportive counseling to all who are wanting to increase their emotional and psychological well-being. Currently, Marilyn is an adjunct professor at Pacific Oaks College. She has continued to expand her skill set and knowledge base through obtaining certificates including: Mindfullness for Treating Kids and Teens, Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Clinic Treatment Anxiety Professional, and Seeking Safety for Treatment of PTSD and Substance Abuse.
